Remember the Fallen. Empower the Future.
On Monday August, AAASC in collaboration with Seyfo Center held its annual Assyrian Memorial Day Commemoration. This year’s theme was “Remember The Fallen. Empower The Future” – it will go down as one of the most significant events in the history of our community in Southern California.
We are grateful to Mayor Eric Garcetti, State Senator Scott Wilk, Assembly-member Adrin Nazarian, City Council-member Paul Krekorian, LAUSD Board Member Scott Schmerelson for attending and giving such eloquent speeches.
Thank you to Representatives Adam Schiff and Brad Sherman for their video messages; and to State Senator Anthony Portantino and LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger for their messages as well.
Thank You to our Assyrian Scout Troop 6732 all our esteemed clergy and other Assyrian organizations — the Seyfo Center, the Assyrian Democratic Movement-LA, and the Assyrian Aid Society – Los Angeles Chapter – for all their support. Thank you to the Armenian National Committee of America-WR ANCA Western Region, the American Hellenic Council, Ara Arahonian, one of the associate producers of “The Promise” Carla Garabedian, and SWANA-LA for attending and standing in solidarity with our community; and for all the work they do in fighting for justice and recognition.
Thank you to the Assyrian Student Association of Los Angeles and all the volunteers for making the event what it was. Thank you to Paul Batou and Fadi Khiyo for showcasing their incredible art, and to Sargon Saadi for all his efforts.
And of course….thank you so much to all the attendees and those who watched on FB Live. “The past is never dead. It’s not even past”
